Chelsea’s attacking midfielder Cole Palmer became the first player in Premier League history to score four goals in the first half of a game during Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Brighton on Saturday.
Palmer’s achievement is even more impressive due to the fact that he scored all the goals in the span of 20 minutes. He scored his first goal in the 21st minute to give Chelsea the equalizer and proceeded with netting three more by the 41st minute. This was the second time in Palmer’s career that he scored four goals in a single game.
But despite doing something no one has ever done, Palmer said he wasn’t entirely pleased with his performance.
“I should have had five or six [goals],” Palmer said after the game. “When I missed the first chance I was upset but with the way they played and their high line I felt we’d get more chances.
After four goals against Brighton, Palmer now has six goals and four assists in six first matches of the 2024-25 Premier League season. He had 22 goals and 11 assists last season, his first with Chelsea.
Thanks to Palmer’s remarkable performances, Chelsea is currently on a three-game winning streak and is sitting fourth in the Premier League with 13 points from six matches.
