Chelsea is reportedly one step close to finalizing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s star attacking midfielder Kai Havertz. According to Sky Sports, the Premier League side already agreed to personal terms with the player and now only has to negotiate a fee with Leverkusen.

The German club previously asked for around $120 million for the player, but it is believed that the number has come down a bit in the past weeks. They would now be content to get $91 million, and reportedly, Chelsea is the only club willing to go this high.

The two clubs are expected to work out the finer details in the coming days.

If Havertz ends up with Chelsea, he will join several other former Bundesliga stars including German attacker Timo Werner and U.S. midfielder Christian Pulisic. The club also has Moroccan forward Hakim Ziyech arriving this summer.

Kai Havertz had an impressive season in 2019/20, scoring 17 goals and providing nine assists for Leverkusen in all competitions. This got him the attention of several Europe’s top clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Most clubs, however, ended up being put off by the high asking price while Bayern dropped out of the race when their players expressed dissatisfaction with the proposed spending.
