Another big soccer transfer rumor has come up during the sport’s current hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with former Barcelona and Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho being rumored to be on Chelsea’s wish list.

The Blues have reportedly switched their focus to Coutinho after determining that they will not be able to afford a bid for in-demand youngster Jadon Sancho, who is rumored to be close to a move to Manchester United.

The Brazilian-born attacker is currently on loan at Bayern Munich from FC Barcelona, where he failed to live up to expectations after joining from Liverpool for over $155 million in January 2018.

Coutinho has gotten back on track somewhat this season, scoring 9 goals and notching 8 assists between all competitions in 32 matches this season.

The attacker is still only 27-years-old and Barcelona could be willing to let him go for a non-exorbitant price in order to get his big salary off of its books.

Chelsea and coach Frank Lampard already have talents such as Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham up front, but currently don’t have a player outside of Mason Mount who can play as an attacking midfielder as Coutinho typically does.

Keep an eye open to see if the Blues will be able to complete the move this summer.
