Chelsea made another major addition to their roster this offseason. The London club officially confirmed on Friday that they have signed attacking midfielder Kai Havertz from Bayern Leverkusen.

Chelsea has been trying to sign Havertz for some time now but found difficulties to agree on a transfer fee with Leverkusen. The Bundesliga side asked for more than $120 million for the 21-year-old German and was reluctant to budge from their price.

However, in recent weeks the two sides managed to come closer, and reportedly, Chelsea ended up paying around $80 million to get Havertz. The number could possibly go up to $95 million if certain conditions are met.

“I am very happy and proud to be here,” said Havertz.” For me, it is a dream come true to play in a big club like Chelsea and I can’t wait to meet all the players and the trainers. Yeah, I am very happy to be here.”

Havertz comes to England after four impressive seasons with Bayer in which he made 150 appearances in all competitions and scored 46 goals with 31 assists.

At Chelsea, Kai Havertz will join his compatriot Timo Werner, who also joined the club this summer in a blockbuster transfer from RB Leipzig. Besides the duo, Chelsea also acquired Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, and Thiago Silva as they gear up to get once again in the Premier League title race.

Ben loves sports so much but prefers watching other people do it. He prefers not to share what teams he's supporting but he is willing to admit that Lebron James is, in fact, the king.
