Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is being investigated by the English Football Association after releasing a barrage of criticism against referee Anthony Taylor following his team’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Tuchel stated that “maybe it would be better” if Taylor did not referee games involving Chelsea in the future, while also questioning how the referee allowed both of Spurs’ goals to stand. Chelsea took a 1-0 lead into the half-time break, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg slotting home a long-range strike to draw Spurs level. This goal came after Spurs’ defender Rodrigo Bentancur appeared to have fouled Kai Havertz.

Reece James managed to restore the Blues’ lead in a blistering counter-attacking move, however, Chelsea was unable to hold onto the lead until the final whistle as Spurs’ forward Harry Kane headed home a corner deep into stoppage time. Yet again, the goal was surrounded by controversy, with Cristian Romero pulling Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella down by his hair moments before the ball arrived in the box.

Both Spurs’ goals triggered heated exchanges between Tuchel and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, with the pair having to be separated after full-time following a bust-up. Tuchel and Conte both received red cards as a result, with the FA labeling the behavior of both managers “improper”.
