Chelsea finally landed their man. After months of speculations, the Premier League side announced on Wednesday that they had acquired left-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester City.

Chelsea has been looking to upgrade their left-back for some time now, with Chilwell being their primary target. Initially, Leicester put an evaluation of $90 million on England international, forcing the London club to consider other options. However, the clubs managed to have a breakthrough in negotiations in recent days and eventually agreed on a $66 million price for the 23-year-old player.

“‘I am delighted to be joining Chelsea at this very exciting time for the club,” said Chilwell upon his arrival. “I can’t wait to get started, and hopefully it won’t be long before we’re playing in front of the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge.”

Ben Chilwell spent his entire career with Leicester City, having joined the club’s youth ranks in 2009 as a 14-year-old teen. He made his Premier League debut in 2016/17, and slowly worked his way to becoming a starter by getting an expanded role each season.

Chilwell was especially impressive this season, having made 43 tackles, 28 interceptions, and 54 clearances in 27 Premier League games.  He was also efficient on the attacking side of the ball, contributing with three goals and three assists.

Chilwell is England international since 2018 and has made 11 appearances for the senior team so far.
