Chelsea announced the signing of Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk during the half-time break of their Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Sunday; a match they went on to win 1-0. The €70 million deal will see Mudryk sign an eight-and-a-half-year contract with the club.

“I’m so happy to sign for Chelsea. This is a huge club, in a fantastic league and it is a very attractive project for me at this stage of my career,” Mudryk stated following the announcement of his transfer. “I’m excited to meet my new teammates and I’m looking forward to working and learning under Graham Potter and his staff.”

Arsenal was reported to also have expressed an interest in the 22-year-old player, submitting a bid of €70 million upfront as well as significant add-ons, however, Shakhtar declined as this fell short of their €100 million valuation for the player.

Mudryk has made a significant impact on European football this season, scoring three goals and grabbing two assists in the group stage of the Champions League as the Ukrainian side grabbed a third-placed finish to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
