Sources have confirmed that the Washington Commanders traded Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a third-round draft pick. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said general manager John Lynch had been working on bolstering the roster but was unsure of whether players would be interested in joining a team on a three-game losing streak.

“If we think there is a chance to improve us, we’ll do it,” Shanahan explained. “It doesn’t sound like there’s a lot of options out there but doesn’t mean for sure no. I know we’ll look up that all the way up to the deadline and see if anything changes.”

Young’s injury issues discouraged the Commanders from picking up his fifth-year option. The defensive end missed this season’s opening game due to a neck injury and tore his ACL and ruptured his patellar tendon in 2021.
