LA Chargers might have to kick off the 2020 NFL season without Mike Williams. According to multiple reports, Williams suffered a shoulder sprain and is currently considered “week-to-week.”

Williams reportedly got injured on practice when he attempted a diving catch and landed awkwardly on his shoulder. The first test showed that the 25-year-old wideout won’t need surgery while Chargers remain “optimistic” that he’ll be able to return by Week 1 game against Cincinnati Bengals on September 13th.

Mike Williams is coming off a breakthrough 2019 season when he showed that the Chargers didn’t waste the seventh overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft on him. He put up career-highs all across the board, finishing the year with 49 receptions for 1,001 and two touchdowns, and making up one of the most dangerous WR duos in NFL with Keenan Allen.

Chargers expect Williams to have a crucial role in 2020 as well, especially since they look continuity on offense with a new quarterback under center.  The team previously parted ways with Pro Bowler Philip Rivers, with veteran Tyrod Taylor expected to fill the starter role this season.
