The Los Angeles Chargers recently signed a one-year contract extension with center Mike Pouncey. This $9 million deal sees Pouncey remain with the Los Angeles side until 2020.
Per the Chargers’ official website, general manager Tom Telesco made the following statement: “From day one, Mike has been everything we thought he’d be and more. He’s an unquestioned leader, both in the locker room and on the field, who has earned the respect of teammates and coaches alike. His relentless work ethic — there have been times where we’ve had to fight to keep him off the practice field — and toughness are contagious. Mike’s dependability is invaluable, and we’re excited to have secured our Pro Bowl center through the 2020 season”
Pouncey has so far enjoyed a promising career with the Chargers, and was featured in every one of their 16 games in 2018. He initially signed with the Chargers on a two-year deal worth $15 million. This came after the Miami Dolphins cut Pouncey from their roster.
While Pouncey was drafted by the Dolphins back in 2011, life in Miami became frustrating for Pouncey, who in 2018 submitted a formal request to be released from his contract with his first professional NFL team.
