Boston Celtics made another attempt to address their struggles this season and decided to sign center Greg Monroe to a 10-day contract. This will be Monroe’s second stint with the Celtics, as he played 26 games with the team during 2017–18 NBA season.

Monroe spent the first part of the season with Toronto Raptors but failed to play a more prominent role with the team averaging 4.8 points and 4.1 rebounds 38 games. Raptors traded him to the Brooklyn Nets just before the February trade deadline, and the Nets swiftly released him after that. The 28-year-old was without a job since then.

“Well, they were having conversations right after the [February trade] deadline, but things didn’t get real serious until about like last week. It happened really fast, pretty quickly,” – said Monroe about his agreement with the Celtics.

Although Celtics didn’t give Greg Monroe any commitment that they will keep him through until the end of the season, it wouldn’t be surprising if he was to stay with the team through the playoffs. Both Boston’s centers, Al Horford and Aron Baynes, are currently struggling with injuries, so keeping Monroe makes sense for the organization short on big men.

During his NBA career, Greg Monroe played with several organizations, including Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks, and is currently averaging 13.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
