Los Angeles Rams liked what they saw from cornerback Troy Hill in 2018 and have tendered the 27-year-old as a free agent back in March. Now Rams followed that up with a one-year extension, which will keep Hill with the organization through 2020.
According to NFL Network, Hill’s deal is worth $5.25 million, but the overall value could go up to $8.25 million if he meets certain incentives.
The Rams confirmed the deal on Thursday via their social media.
After struggling in his first three years in the league, Troy Hill enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2018 when he became Rams’ go-to guy when team’s starters Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters were not available. He also filled in for nickelback Nickell Robey-Coleman, and ended up playing 42.5 percent of the team’s defensive snaps; almost double compared to the year before. Hill is expected to be a cover guy in 2019 as well but might get a more prominent role even if Talib and Peters remain healthy.
Hill finished 2018 with 34 tackles, two interceptions, and five passes defended.
