After being released by Washington Redskins last week, cornerback Orlando Scandrick quickly found another job. According to ESPN‘s Field Yates, Scandrick will sign a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs in the next couple of days.
Chiefs were looking for a veteran cornerback for some time now, with another former Redskins player Bashaud Breeland emerging as a viable option. Still, they opted against signing Breeland and decided to act quickly after Scandrick surprisingly became available.
Kansas City Chiefs’ CB rotation received significant overhaul compared to 2017. Five out of their six cornerbacks are no longer on the team, including Pro Bowler Marcus Peters who was traded to Los Angeles Rams. The only CB with experience Chiefs had left from 2017 was Steven Nelson, but he is currently in the concussion protocol.
In an attempt to find solutions on the cornerback position, Chiefs turned to, and we kid you not, Washington Redskins earlier this season. They acquired Kendall Fuller in a direct trade with and then signed another former Redskins player, free agent David Amerson.
Considering his NFL experience, Orlando Scandrick might prove to be the right guy for the Chiefs; at least this year. After being selected in the fifth round of 2008 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, Scandrick spent 10 years with the franchise. He signed a two-year, $7 million deal with the Redskins in March 2018, but was released due to the emergence of team’s younger CBs.
