Rashford joined Villa in January on loan from Manchester United and has played well since then. He has two goals and two assists in 10 Premier League games while also receiving praise from head coach Unai Emery for his other contributions on the field.
Barcelona is currently looking to fortify its attack and sees Rashford, who was on their radar in 2023 before he signed a new contract with Manchester United, as a suitable option. The only issue is that the Catalan club isn’t keen on paying his £40 million ($53.3 million) price tag due to their poor financial situation.
It is unclear whether Man United would be willing to give them a discount at this moment considering that Aston Villa can turn Rashford’s loan into a permanent transfer for the same fee.
Rashford, on the other hand, isn’t interested in returning to Manchester United due to a strained relationship with Ruben Amorim. While staying with Aston Villa is an option, he is reportedly excited about the opportunity to play at Camp Nou and would be willing to take a significant pay cut from his current £300,000 per week to facilitate a move to Barcelona.

]]>Real Madrid’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti is expected to leave the La Liga powerhouse in June. According to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Ancelotti already accepted a new job and will become the head coach of Brazil’s national team.
Ancelotti initially intended to fulfill his contract with Real, which runs until 2026, but the club’s struggling form has caused both sides to agree to part ways. Real has been eliminated in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League, lost the Copa del Rey finals against bitter rivals Barcelona, and is currently trailing the Catalan club by four points in La Liga with five games to play.
Reportedly, Ancelotti will take over Brazil on a one-year deal and lead the country at the 2026 World Cup. He will succeed Dorival Júnior, who was fired in March after a string of disappointing results that included an embarrassing 4-1 loss to Argentina.
Real, on the other hand, is already putting together a shortlist of candidates to replace Ancelotti. At the moment, Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is considered the leading candidate. Alonso spent five years with Real as a player, winning La Liga in 2011–12 and UCL trophy in 2013–14.
Carlo Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid as one of the most accomplished head coaches in the team’s history. During his two stints with the club, Ancelotti won 15 trophies including two La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.

]]>LAFC’s head coach, Steve Cherundolo, announced that he will step down from his position with the MLS team after the end of the 2025 season.
In a statement released by the club, Cherundolo explained it was a family decision.
“It is an honor to be the head coach of LAFC,” Cherundolo said in a statement. “After much reflection and discussion with my family, we made the decision that at the end of this year we will return to Germany.”
Cherundolo, who had 87 caps for the United States men’s national team, spent his entire professional career with German club Hannover 96. After retirement in 2014, he remained with the club in a coaching role, overseeing its academy teams.
Steve Cherundolo took over as LAFC’s head coach in 2022. He clinched the Supporters’ Shield and won the MLS Cup, the first in the team’s history, in his first season at the helm. LAFC also lifted the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2024 under Cherundolo.
LAFC has struggled at the beginning of the 2025 season, having four wins and four losses in their first eight MLS matches. They are currently sitting at No. 7 in the Eastern Conference and are seven points behind the leading Vancouver Whitecaps. The LA team was also eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

According to multiple reports, Miami currently holds De Bruyne’s MLS discovery rights. This gives the club the opportunity to engage in exclusive negotiations with the player and have the best shot at bringing him to the United States.
De Bruyne already made an announcement last week that he will leave City at the end of the 2024-25 season. He is believed to have an interest in playing in MLS, with the chance to team up with Lionel Messi being particularly appealing to him.
However, Inter Miami will likely face tough competition and various challenges to sign De Bruyne. Given the player’s reputation, he is expected to receive interest from European clubs and rich offers from Saudi Arabia. On top of that, Inter has all three of its Designated Player spots filled, meaning they are limited in what they can offer to the Belgium international.
Kevin De Bruyne joined Manchester City ahead of the 2017-18 season and has been one of the club’s key players for the majority of his time there. However, his impact on the pitch has been greatly diminished in recent years, and he only has two goals and six assists in 21 Premier League games this season.

]]>Mexico is the winner of the 2024–25 edition of the CONCACAF Nations League after beating Panama 2-1 in the Finals thanks to a late goal by striker Raul Jimenez. United States men’s national team, which won the previous three editions of the competition, finished fourth after losing to Canada in the third-place match.
After losing in the Finals two times in the past three seasons, Mexico finally managed to jump over the hump. However, it was far from an easy feat against a Panama team that was flying high after stunning USMNT in the semi-finals.
Mexico was aggressive from the kick-off and the strategy quickly paid off with Jimenez breaking the deadlock in the eighth minute of the game. After that, El Tri was happy to cede possession and soak up the pressure.
Panama intensified its attacks toward the end of the first half and it paid off in the added time as Mexican defender Johan Vasquez made a reckless tackle in the penalty box. Adalberto Carrasquilla converted the penalty kick to make it 1-1.
The second half saw Mexico taking the initiative once again but Panama proved well-equipped to keep them at bay. But Panama’s defender Jose Cordoba ensured the teams wouldn’t go into extra time by touching the ball with his hand in the penalty area. Jimenez was confident from the spot, scoring his second goal of the game and securing the first CONCACAF Nations League trophy for Mexico.
USMNT, on the other hand, failed to extend its domination in the CONCACAF Nations League. The Americans struggled throughout the surprise so the loss to Canada wasn’t a major surprise.
Tani Oluwaseyi got Canada in the lead in the 27th minute before Patrick Agyemang scored the equalizer for USMNT in the 35th minute. Jonathan David made it 2-1 for Canada in the 59th minute, and it turned out to be a winning goal as USMNT failed to come up with a response.
“We are all [disappointed] and the fans need to feel the disappointment that we didn’t win,” said USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino after the game. “But I’m not going to allow [us] to feel pessimistic because I think we have good players. We are going to find a way to perform and for sure we are going to compete in a different way.”

]]>It looks like the United States men’s national team star forward Christian Pulisic found his home with Seria A side AC Milan. According to reports from Italian media, Pulisic and Milan are currently engaged in negotiations about a new contract.
After an up-and-down stint with Premier League’s Chelsea, Pulisic opted to sign with Milan in 2023 and quickly established himself as one of the club’s key players. That has been particularly the case in the 2024-25 campaign, with Pulisic contributing 15 goals and nine assists in all competitions so far. With this, he became the first player since legendary Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score 15 goals for Milan in each of his first two seasons with the club.
Pulisic has two years left on his deal after this season, but AC Milan reportedly wants to move quickly in order to secure the American’s services for the foreseeable future. It is believed that Pulisic is also very interested in renewing his commitment to the club, having settled in Italy better than expected.
Despite Pulisic’s impressive performances this season, AC Milan is enduring a rough campaign. They failed to make a run in the UEFA Champions League, being eliminated in the Knockout phase play-offs by Dutch side Feyenoord. Additionally, their form in the Seria A has been largely inconsistent as they are currently sitting in ninth place and in danger of missing out on European competitions next season.
The highlight of Milan’s 2024-25 season has been the Supercoppa Italiana trophy, which they won by beating their bitter cross-town rivals Inter Milan.

]]>Real Madrid is one step closer to defending their UEFA Champions League title from last season. The La Liga powerhouse claimed a 3-2 comeback win over Premier League heavyweights Manchester City in the first leg of the Knockout Round Playoffs.
Real was an inferior side in the first half and was trailing after 19 minutes. Man City’s defender Josko Gvadirol used his chest to pass the ball to Erling Haaland in the penalty box, allowing the Norwegian striker to score a beautiful volley for a 1-0 lead.
The second half saw more animated Real and their efforts paid off in the 60th minute thanks to Kylian Mbappe’s equalizer. The Spanish team continued to press and it seemed like it was only a matter of time before they got another one.
However, it was Man City that got the next goal. Phil Foden was tackled in the penalty area by Dani Ceballos and Haaland stepped to the spot and calmly bagged his second goal of the game in the 80th minute.
Real didn’t wait too long to respond, with substitute striker Brahim Diaz using the commotion in the penalty area after Ederson’s save to pick up the loose ball and find the net six minutes later.
The game then entered in added time and it seemed like it would end in a tie. But City’s goalie Ederson made a miscalculated attempt in the dying second of the game to rush at the forward Vinicius Jr., who simply chipped the ball over him. Jude Bellingham was in the right place and found himself in front of an empty goal for an easy score.
With the win, Real Madrid finds itself in a good position to progress to the Round of 16. They welcome City at their home stadium for the second leg on February 19 while having one goal advantage. The winner from this matchup will play either Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen in the next stage.
In other Knockout Round Playoffs clashes, Paris Saint-Germain got a 3-0 win over Brest while Borussia Dortmund beat Sporting Lisbon with the same result. Finally, Juventus claimed a 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven.

]]>Manchester United’s star striker Marcus Rashford is reportedly finalizing a deal to join Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.
According to soccer insider Fabrizio Romano, the negotiations between the two clubs are in final stages and there is optimism that the deal will be wrapped up soon. Villa agreed to cover a substantial portion of Rashford’s £300,000 per week ($370,000) salary while also securing an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer.
Despite once being considered the future of Manchester United, Marcus Rashford has found himself at the exit door due to poor form and problematic behavior off the field. The club’s new head coach Ruben Amorim initially removed Rashford from his lineup in early December due to poor training performances and kept him out ever since while the player said he’s “ready for a new challenge” in a recent interview.
Rashford, who has seven goals in all competitions this season, was reportedly keen to join La Liga giants Barcelona but the move didn’t materialize due to the Spanish club’s dire financial situation. Bundesliga’s Borussia Dortmund was also interested but was unwilling to cover Rashford’s large salary.
Aston Villa, on the other hand, recently received a substantial financial injection after selling striker Jhon Durán to Saudi Arabia side Al Nassr for $80 million and jumped on the opportunity to add an impactful player.
Rashford went through Manchester United’s youth academy, which he joined as a seven-year-old, and made his professional debut in 2016. Since then, he played 426 games for the club in all competitions, scoring 138 goals and adding 63 assists, while winning two FA Cups and UEFA Europa League in 2016-17.

Pep Guardiola’s team is on the brink of UCL elimination after suffering a shocking loss in the wild six-goal thriller against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
Man City and PSG came head to head on a torrid, rainy night in Paris, and delivered a stunning second-half performance. Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland put Man City in control with two goals early in the second half but quickly blew the 2-0 lead. Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola leveled the game for PSG, before Joao Neves and Goncalo Ramos added two more goals, leading the French side to the 4-2 win.
Man City boss Pep Guardiola admitted they couldn’t cope with PSG and added they have to focus on recovering their game ahead of the match with Club Brugge.
“Tonight, they were better. Congratulate PSG and accept it. The law of football is like that – how intense and aggressive they were in key positions. You have to recover players and do it better. Their players suffered and they were better,” said Guardiola.
Man City will get a chance to recover and avoid the Champions League elimination against Club Brugge at home next Wednesday. They’re also getting ready to face Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

Man City confirmed the deal and its length in a statement but didn’t disclose financial details. According to sources close to the club, Haaland will earn £500,000 ($610,000) on a weekly basis, making him one of the highest-paid soccer players in the world. Additionally, he gave up a release clause that was part of his former deal.
Haaland was previously linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid but the new deal ensures he is no longer a subject of transfer rumors and will continue to be the face of Manchester City for years to come.
“Manchester City is a special Club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody,” Haaland said in a statement shared by the club. “ … I want to keep developing, keep working to get better, and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward.”
Erling Haaland joined Manchester City in the summer of 2022 in a $62 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund. Since then, he solidified his status as one of the best strikers in the world, scoring 111 goals in 126 matches while winning two Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy.
This season, Haaland has continued to be prolific in front of the goal despite City’s struggles. He has 16 goals in the Premier League and has added five more in UCL.

]]>Norwegian star striker Erling Haaland signed a record 10-year contract with Manchester City. The deal will keep Haaland with the Premier League powerhouse by the end of the 2033-34 season and is the longest given to a player in league history.
