Premier League powerhouse Manchester United is expected to undergo major changes in the summer after another disappointing season. Whether the departure of the club’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, will be part of those changes is yet to be determined, according to the Portuguese midfielder himself.

Recent reports indicated that United is looking to part ways with several high-earning players as part of a roster revamp, with Fernandes being mentioned as part of the list. When asked about these rumors during a recent chat with Dazn Portugal, Fernandes said that he will consider his future with the club after he finishes the EURO 2024 campaign with the Portugal national team.

“I don’t have thoughts for other things at the moment. It doesn’t just depend on me,” said Fernandes. “So, if you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won’t be until after the Euros.”

However, Fernandes indicated that he would like to stay at Old Trafford and thinks United feels the same way.

“A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there’s that on both sides” he added.

Bruno Fernandes has been one of the best players for Manchester United since joining the club from Sporting in January 2020. He continued to perform at a high level in 2023-24 as well, scoring 15 goals and adding 11 assists in all competitions.

Despite Fernades’ efforts, United failed to find success this season. The Red Devils are currently sitting sixth in the Premier League while previously finishing last in their UEFA Champions League group. The Los Angeles Angels’ superstar outfielder Mike Trout is dealing with a meniscus injury in his left knee and will require surgery. Trout is expected to be sidelined for an extended period, but the organization hopes he will be able to return to action before the end of the 2024 MLB season.

According to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, Trout will undergo the procedure at some point this week. If everything goes as planned and doctors don’t discover further damage in his knee, Trout could be back on the field in four to six weeks.

Speaking with reporters after the news was confirmed, Trout said that he isn’t sure when his injury took place. He played the entirety of a 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday but said that he felt discomfort in his knee in the third inning. He reported it to the medical staff after the game and learned the bad news following a checkup.

“It was just sore,” Trout said. “I was kind of telling myself maybe I just banged it on something and I didn’t realize it. Then, after the game, getting treatment, it was really sore.”

Trout added that the injury is “frustrating,” but he is keeping a positive mind.

Early in his career, Mike Trout was considered the best player in baseball, winning three AL MVP awards between 2014 and 2019. However, a series of injuries derailed his career in recent years, and he managed to play more than 54 games only once since 2019.

In 29 games played this season, Trout batted .220 with 14 RBIs and league-leading 10 home runs.

After finding success as owners of English club Wrexham AFC, actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are aiming to grow their soccer empire further.  According to ESPN, the duo is finalizing a deal to buy a stake in Liga MX side Necaxa.

Reportedly, the deal, which has been in the works for months, will see Reynolds and McElhenney acquire a minority stake in Necaxa. They will join a number of other celebrities in the club’s ownership structure including actress Eva Longoria, retired soccer player Mesut Özil, NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and Houston Astros’ ace Justin Verlander.

Founded in 1923, Necaxa has a rich history, winning Mexico’s national league title three times and lifting the Copa MX trophy eight times. However, the club has been having a hard time finding success recently, finishing last in the standings in the 2023 campaign.

Reynolds and McElhenney will now likely try to use their experience gained leading Wrexham to try and revive Necaxa. The duo’s acquisition of the Welsh club was initially met with skepticism but they have since managed to silence doubters.

Under Reynolds and McElhenney’s ownership, Wrexham achieved back-to-back promotions and will play next season in EFL League One, the third tier of the English football system, for the first time since 2004–05. After drafting nine players in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars made a series of moves to free up roster spots for incoming rookies by parting way with a couple of veterans.

The Jags announced on Tuesday that they are parting ways with veteran wide receiver Zay Jones and kicker Joey Slye. Jones will the franchise after two years in Jacksonville, while Slye is out the door before playing a single snap for the team.

Jones joined the Jags ahead of the 2022 season on a three-year, $24 million contract. After a solid first season, in which he had 85 catches for 823 yards and five touchdowns, Jones struggled in 2023 and had only 274 receiving yards and two TDs to show for.

Slye, on the other hand, spent the last season with the Washington Commanders, converting 19 out of 24 field goal attempts and 91.4% of extra point attempts. He signed a one-year, $1.29 million contract with the Jags in March.

The Jaguars were comfortable with letting Jones and Slye leave as they already drafted their replacements. They selected LSU standout wideout Brian Thomas Jr. with the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 draft while also taking Arkansas kicker Cam Little with the sixth-round selection.

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed star tight end Travis Kelce to a new two-year extension. The agreement almost guarantees that Kelce will retire with the franchise he helped win three Super Bowls in the past five years.

Reportedly, Kelce’s extension is worth $34.25 million and makes him the highest-paid tight end in the league. As part of the extension, the veteran will receive a $17 million fully guaranteed salary in 2024, while his salary for 2025 is “mostly guaranteed.”

The Chiefs announced the news on Monday but didn’t disclose the financial terms of the extension.

“Hard to put in words what Travis means to this organization, this city, and he was certainly a priority to adjust his contract for us, and it was something that was important for Clark [Hunt]. So very fitting that Travis [is] now the highest paid tight end in these two years,” said general manager Brett Veach in a statement.

Travis Kelce is already considered one of the best tight ends to ever play. He has nine consecutive Pro Bowl appearances since 2015 while also being named to All-Pro teams seven times. Additionally, he received NFL 2010s All-Decade Team selection and holds a number of records, including most seasons with 1,000 yards receiving by a tight end with seven and most career postseason receptions with 165.

Kelce had a rough season in 2023 by his standards, making 93 catches for 984 yards and five touchdowns. It was the first time he failed to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving since 2015. However, he once again came through in the postseason, being pivotal to the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run by setting the record for most postseason catches with 32 and having 355 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Ezekiel Elliott entered the league as the Cowboys’ fourth overall selection in 2016 and quickly established himself as one of the best backs in the league. Veteran Brazilian defender Thiago Silva will leave Premier League side Chelsea at the end of the 2023-24 season, bringing his stint with the London club to an end after four years.

Chelsea announced the news via video shared on their social media.

“I think everything I did here over the four years, I always gave my all but unfortunately everything has a start, a middle and an end,” said Silva in the video.

Silva also left open the possibility of returning to the club in a different role in the future.

“That doesn’t mean that this is a definitive end. I hope to leave the door open so that in the near future I can return albeit in another role here. But it is an indescribable love. I can only say thank you,” he added.

After a successful career with AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, Thiago Silva signed with Chelsea as a free agent in the summer of 2020. Silva quickly established himself as a key player at Stamford Bridge and played in 151 games in all competitions while helping the club win the UEFA Champions League trophy.

Despite turning 39 in September, it appears that Silva isn’t thinking about retirement just yet. Returning to native Brazil and reuniting with Fluminense appears to be the likeliest option, although Silva is believed to be interested in playing in MLS as well.

Parker previously expressed doubts about her future in the WNBA after missing the second part of the 2023 season with a foot injury. She signed a one-year deal with the Las Vegas Aces for 2024 with hopes of playing her 17th season in the league but now decided it was time to walk away.

“I promised I’d never cheat the game & that I’d leave it in a better place than I came into it. The competitor in me always wants 1 more, but it’s time. My HEART & body knew, but I needed to give my mind time to accept it,” she wrote on Instagram.

The New York Jets and the Denver Broncos obviously love doing business together. After the Jets traded quarterback Zach Wilson to the Broncos earlier this week, the two teams also struck a deal for defensive end John Franklin-Myers.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets agreed to trade Franklin-Myers to the Broncos in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2026.

While Franklin-Myers was a solid contributor for the Jets in recent seasons, the team was looking to move him for a while in an attempt to clear salary cap space. Additionally, the veteran was deemed surplus after the team acquired Pro Bowler Haason Reddick in a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Reportedly, the Franklin-Myers trade almost didn’t go through because it included the Broncos receiving a 2024 fifth-rounder that the Jets ended up using to move up in the draft and select wide receiver Malachi Corley with the 65th overall pick. The two teams later reworked their agreement and pushed the trade through.

Trading Franklin-Myers will come with significant savings for the Jets, considering he was set to earn $29 million in the next two seasons under the terms of a four-year, $55 million extension he signed back in 2021. The Broncos, on the other hand, won’t be on the hook for this amount as they agreed to a new two-year deal, a $15 million deal with the player after the trade was completed.

John Franklin-Myers entered the league in 2018 as a fourth-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams. He spent just one season in LA before being placed on waivers and picked up by the Jets. Franklin-Myers played 81 games in his five years as a pro, contributing with 135 tackles, 19.5 sacks, 61 QB hits, seven pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.

The Los Angeles Lakers have avoided getting swept by the Denver Nuggets for the second consecutive postseason. Facing elimination and another embarrassment in Game 4 of their first-round series against the Nuggets on Saturday night, the Lakers displayed a remarkable resilience and came up with a 119-108 win.

Prior to Saturday, the Lakers lost 11 consecutive games against the Nuggets. They were swept in the 2023 Western Conference Finals, lost all four regular-season games in the 2023-24 season, and then fell down 3-0 at the start of this year’s playoff series.

But in Game 4, the Lakers found a spark. They finished the first quarter with a five-point lead and never trailed again. LA’s superstar LeBron James led the way with 30 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Anthony Davis added 25 points and 23 rebounds. This proved enough to overcome another monster outing by Nuggets’ superstar Nikola Jokic, who had 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 14 assists.

Speaking with reports after the game, James said that the Lakers gave themselves “another life” with a win.

“The only opportunity for us is just to play the next game,” LeBron James said. “And we’ve given ourselves another life. We’ve given ourselves another lifeline, and it’s a one-game series for us.”

However, the Lakers are still facing a massive challenge. In order to advance to the second round, they would need to become the first team in NBA history to overcome a 3-0 deficit in a playoff series. While Franklin-Myers was a solid contributor for the Jets in recent seasons, the team was looking to move him for a while in an attempt to clear salary cap space. Additionally, the veteran was deemed surplus after the team acquired Pro Bowler Haason Reddick in a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Reportedly, the Franklin-Myers trade almost didn’t go through because it included the Broncos receiving a 2024 fifth-rounder that the Jets ended up using to move up in the draft and select wide receiver Malachi Corley with the 65th overall pick. The two teams later reworked their agreement and pushed the trade through.

Trading Franklin-Myers will come with significant savings for the Jets, considering he was set to earn $29 million in the next two seasons under the terms of a four-year, $55 million extension he signed back in 2021. The Broncos, on the other hand, won’t be on the hook for this amount as they agreed to a new two-year deal, a $15 million deal with the player after the trade was completed.

John Franklin-Myers entered the league in 2018 as a fourth-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams. He spent just one season in LA before being placed on waivers and picked up by the Jets. Franklin-Myers played 81 games in his five years as a pro, contributing with 135 tackles, 19.5 sacks, 61 QB hits, seven pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.

The Los Angeles Lakers have avoided getting swept by the Denver Nuggets for the second consecutive postseason. Facing elimination and another embarrassment in Game 4 of their first-round series against the Nuggets on Saturday night, the Lakers displayed a remarkable resilience and came up with a 119-108 win.

Prior to Saturday, the Lakers lost 11 consecutive games against the Nuggets. They were swept in the 2023 Western Conference Finals, lost all four regular-season games in the 2023-24 season, and then fell down 3-0 at the start of this year’s playoff series.

But in Game 4, the Lakers found a spark. They finished the first quarter with a five-point lead and never trailed again. LA’s superstar LeBron James led the way with 30 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Anthony Davis added 25 points and 23 rebounds. This proved enough to overcome another monster outing by Nuggets’ superstar Nikola Jokic, who had 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 14 assists.

Speaking with reports after the game, James said that the Lakers gave themselves “another life” with a win.

“The only opportunity for us is just to play the next game,” LeBron James said. “And we’ve given ourselves another life. We’ve given ourselves another lifeline, and it’s a one-game series for us.”

However, the Lakers are still facing a massive challenge. In order to advance to the second round, they would need to become the first team in NBA history to overcome a 3-0 deficit in a playoff series. The Lakers and the Nuggets are playing again on Monday night in another elimination game for the LA team.
