Former UFC champion Conor McGregor will put his return to MMA on hold in favor of a boxing match with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

McGregor announced the news on social media while addressing rumors about his potential fight with reigning UFC Featherweight Champion Ilia Topuria, which he labeled as “false.”

“I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon,” McGregor stated.

McGregor hadn’t competed in the octagon since 2021, when he suffered a broken leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. He was scheduled to return to at UFC 303 earlier this summer but withdrew from his fight against Michael Chandler due to injury.

Conor McGregor already has some boxing experience, taking Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2017. He lasted 10 rounds against the undefeated boxing legend before the referee stopped the fight due to Mayweather’s dominance.

Paul, on the other hand, made his boxing debut in 2020 and has since compiled an 11-1 record. Most of his fights were exhibition bouts against fellow social media stars or retired athletes. A highly-anticipated boxing match between former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson and YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is being postponed.

Tyson and Paul were set to square off in a ring on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event was set to be streamed on Netflix and has generated significant buzz.

However, Paul’s promotion Most Valuable Promotions confirmed that the boxing match isn’t going to take place at the previously scheduled date. Tyson experienced an ulcer flare-up and has been advised by the doctors to “lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover.”

However, the match is still on and will be rescheduled for later this year.

“Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good. I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year,” said Tyson in a statement.

Paul added that he supports Tyson’s decision and “don’t want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best.”

Paul vs Tyson will be one for the ages, and I promise to bring my best for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup,” Paul stated.

Upon retiring in 2005, Tyson has a 50-6 career record, with 44 of his 50 wins coming via knockout. His last boxing match was an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, which ended in a draw. 

Paul, on the other hand, had 10 fights in his boxing career. He has a record of 9-1, but it is important to note that his previous fights were against unknown boxers or opponents who were not boxers.

Oleksandr Usyk is the first boxer in 24 years who can call himself an undisputed heavyweight champion. Usyk earned the bragging rights by beating Tyson Fury in an action-packed boxing match on Sunday.

Usyk entered the fight, which was a long time in the making, holding WBA, WBO, and IBF belts. Fury, on the other hand, held the WBC championship belt.

Throughout the first eight rounds, the fight was even, and it appeared it could go either way or even finish in a draw. However, Usyk sent Fury into the ropes in the ninth round and would probably knocked him down if it wasn’t for the bell. The Ukrainian then did enough to keep the image fresh in the memory of the judges in the next three rounds.

After 12 rounds, the judges came to a split decision. Two judges ruled the fight in Usyk’s favor (115-112, 114-113), while one judge awarded the fight to Fury (113-114).

“Is great time. Is great day,” Usyk said after being announced as the winner. “Is big opportunity for my team, for my family, for my country!”

Fury, who suffered the first loss of his career, disputed the decision. He also announced he’ll trigger the rematch clause. If that happens, the second fight between Usyk and Fury would take place in October.

Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr., two of the best welterweight boxers in the world, will finally face off in the ring. According to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, Crawford and Spence Jr. agreed to a fight on July 29 at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.

The winner of the fight will become the undisputed welterweight champion of the world. Crawford currently holds WBO welterweight title, while Spence has WBA, WBC, and IBF welterweight titles in his possession. 

Coppinger reports that the fight agreement between Crawford and Spence will have a “rematch” clause, allowing the loser to ask for a second fight 30 days after the original bout. The rematch would need to take place by the end of 2023. In case the two fights are split, a trilogy would be in the cards.

Terence Crawford has a 39-0 boxing record, with 30 of his wins coming as a result of a knockout. He won the WBO title in a match against Jeff Horn in 2018 and has since defended it six times. His last fight came in late 2022 when he knocked out David Avanesyan in the sixth round.

In a recent chat with BT Sport, John Fury shared that his son dealt with elbow injuries ahead of the bout and had to get cortisone injections before the fight started. The injuries were so bad that the WBC heavyweight champ need “six-hour” surgery to repair the damage.

“He’s since had an operation, six hours, all day in hospital having them sorted out. He had some bone spurs he had to get removed,” John Fury told the British media outlet.

“My son’s No. 1, a legend and will be spoken about for hundreds of years,” he added. “He’s that damn good and got that burning desire to never get beaten.”

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder produced one of the best boxing matches in ages to wrap up their trilogy. Both of the fighters were on canvas at one point but it was Fury who dealt the finishing blow by dropping Wilder in the eleventh round to end the fight.

Tyson Fury has emerged as a strong betting favorite ahead of his clash with Deontay Wilder for the WBC heavyweight title in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Fury is a -280 favorite to win the bout, while Wilder has been positioned as the +230 underdog.

During Fury and Wilder’s first bout in 2018, it was Wilder who was viewed as the clear favorite. This fight ended in a split draw. Wilder remained the favorite to win the second bout, a match that ended with Fury shocking the boxing world by winning via a seventh-round TKO.

Nick Kalikas, a risk supervisor for Circa Sports, had this to say on the latest betting trends: “We did see a lot of straight bets on Wilder earlier. Now, as we’re getting closer to the fight, there is an uptick of action both ways. We did see some sharp action, some max bets on Tyson Fury, as of late.”

Betting giant Caesars Sportsbook revealed that at the start of Saturday, nearly 80% of the money that had been wagered was placed on a Fury win. BetMGM, on the other hand, reported that 64.6% of its betting money was on Wilder, while OddsChecker.com reported that betting was evenly divided on aggregate.
