ATP world number six Casper Ruud has won a tour-leading 27th match this season, trumping Matteo Arnaldi of Italy 6-4 6-3 in the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open on Friday. The Norwegian won 67 points compared to Arnaldi’s 51, winning four of his six break points of the match.
Ruud defeated Jordan Thompson of Australia 6-1 6-4 in the Round of 16 in order to move past Jannik Sinner with the most ATP wins in 2024 for the season to date. He came close to winning the Monte Carlo Masters last week, eventually falling 6-1 6-4 to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.
During his runup to the final, Ruud found himself in scintillating form, defeating world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi-final. Now, Ruud will hope to do one better at the Barcelona Open, where he will face Tomás Martín Etcheverry of Argentina in the semi-final on Saturday.
