Philadelphia Eagles’ Carson Wentz has been cleared and is slated to start against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Head Coach Doug Pederson announced on Monday that Wentz was fit to return to play after nine months of being in the sidelines due to an ACL injury. The 25-year-old got injured last December and underwent surgery almost immediately.

Nick Foles filled his position at the quarterback and led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl since 1960.

While announcing Wentz’s return, Coach Pederson praised the quarterback for persevering throughout the rehab session.

“I was impressed with how well he attacked his rehab throughout the offseason. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do and he’s ready to go.”

Although Foles had the opportunity to find a new team, he chose to stay with the Eagles and fight for a place in the team. With Wentz back, Foles will have to be content as a substitute. Manager Pederson believes there will be no bad blood in the dressing room.

“Nick all along has understood that this is Carson’s football team. We owe a lot of gratitude to Nick Foles for what he’s done and how he’s led this team,” Pederson said. He’s very supportive.

While he doesn’t expect Wentz to pick up straight where he left, Pederson is confident the 25-year-old is ready.

“It’s going to take some time to get in the rhythm and flow of the game. The speed of the game is different than practice,” the manager said. “He will be totally prepared. He comes early, stays late, asks a lot of questions, he has a lot of ideas. He’ll be ready mentally.”
