Arizona Cardinals are struggling with production on the offensive end this season, so the team decided to make some changes and fire offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. This comes after the Cardinals suffered a 10-48 loss against Denver Broncos at home and fell to a 1-6 record.

Arizona also confirmed that quarterbacks coach Byron Leftwich will take McCoy’s role.

Seven weeks into the season, based off where we were from the standpoint of production on the offensive side of the ball, I felt the need to make a change, and that’s what I did,” – said Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks.

According to Wilks, the decision to fire McCoy wasn’t entirely based on the loss against the Broncos.

We weren’t productive enough,” – he added. “Let’s just say that, and that may be an understatement.

McCoy’s firing didn’t surprise a lot of people, considering the fact that Arizona Cardinals were offensively among the worst teams in the league, having fewest yards per game (220.7) and second-fewest points per game (13.1).

Mike McCoy got his first job in NFL with the Carolina Panthers in 2000, serving first as team’s offensive assistant and later being promoted to quarterbacks coach. He took a job as an offensive coordinator with the Broncos in 2009, serving four years with the team before becoming a head coach of the San Diego Chargers in 2013.

After leading the Chargers’ to a playoff appearance in his first year, McCoy failed to make the postseason in the next three seasons and was ultimately fired in 2016. He then returned to Denver for 2017 season as OC but was fired in the middle of the season after the team went on a six-game losing streak.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
