The Banc of California Stadium was in high spirits last night as MLS Western Conference leaders LAFC defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 4-0. LAFC winger and club captain Carlos Vela provided a particularly impressive performance on the night with two goals of his own.

LAFC was on the attack from the first whistle, and their efforts were soon rewarded with a 6th-minute goal by striker Diego Rossi. While the Earthquakes soon upped their own attacking momentum in an effort to strike back, LAFC got the better of the visitors yet again in a move that led to an LAFC penalty. Vela successfully converted to extend the home side’s lead, and the Mexican international was able to score again in the 41st minute to secure a 3-0 lead going into half time. LAFC put the final nail in the coffin in the 81st minute, as Joshua Perez secured a 4-0 win for the home team.

This victory sees LAFC maintain a comfortable lead at the top of the MLS Western Conference standings, with a staggering 61 points in 26 games. San Jose is down in 6th with a total of 38 points, however, they remain on course to secure a spot in the MLS playoffs provided that they don’t lose their position on the league table.
