Canada’s striker Jonathan David revealed that he had multiple offers come his way this summer. However, David ended up staying put with Ligue 1 side Lille, and will likely make a move in 2025 as a free agent.
David has been considered one of the most exciting young forwards in soccer in recent years, being tracked by a number of top European clubs. He had 26 goals in each of the past two seasons and started the 2024-25 in the same prolific fashion with three goals in seven games.
In a recent interview with The Athletic, David revealed there was interest in his services before the transfer window closed.
“It just didn’t happen,” David revealed. “There were a couple of offers, and we just didn’t finish the deal, that’s it.”
According to David, some of the offers were quite serious, but he opted to wait a bit longer before making a decision on his future.
“I spoke to a couple of teams,” he added. “I spoke with coaches. But ultimately [we] made the decision to stay.”
David, who recently scored in Canada’s 2-1 win over the USMNT, is expected to get a lot more offers next year as clubs won’t have to pay a transfer fee for him. Seria A clubs Juventus and Inter Milan are considered to be particularly high on him, with London clubs Tottenham and Chelsea also believed to be in the mix.
