Canadian international defender Alphonso Davies will be part of German giants Bayern Munich for years to come. The team announced on Monday that Davies signed a new contract which will keep him with the organization until 2025.

Davies has been a pleasant surprise for Bayern this season, breaking into the starting 11 and playing a significant role for the team that sits on the top of the Bundesliga table.

“I am very pleased that Bayern and Alphonso have made a long-term commitment to each other,” said the team’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. “With his speed, his enthusiasm, and his professional attitude, Alphonso is an ideal fit for our team. ”

Alphonso Davies signed with Bayern in 2018, joining from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps for a reported fee of up to $22 million. Davies didn’t play much at the beginning of his time in Germany, but things changed following the dismissal of Niko Kovac.

Under the new coach Hansi Flick, Davies started getting more opportunity and already has 17 starts in 2019/20 Bundesliga. He scored one goal and has four assists to his name.

Davies is part of Canada’s international team since 2017 and has since played a total of 17 games.
