Cameron Smith can finally call himself a major championship winner. Smith won his first major title at the 2022 Open Championship and did it in style, overcoming a 4-strokes deficit in the Final Round to finish at the top.

Smith was -13 to par and had two strokes lead at the end of the Second Round on Friday. However, his sluggish performance in the Third Round saw him enter the Final Round four shots behind Viktor Hovland and Rory McIlroy.

The 28-year-old golfer then went on a tear on Sunday, delivering five consecutive birdies in the back nine and handling the round 8-under 64. He finished -20 to par, matching the major championship record and having one shot in the bag over runner-up Cameron Young.

Cameron Smith, who became the first Australian to win a major title in more than six decades, previously had T20 as his highest finish at The Open. However, Smith hinted at some big things with a third-place finish at the Masters Tournament and career-best T13 at PGA Championship.

“All the names on there, every player that’s been at the top of their game has won this championship,” said Smith. “It’s pretty cool to be on there. It really hasn’t sunk in yet. I don’t think it will for a few weeks. Yeah, it’s just unreal.”

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
