Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton finally apologized for his disrespectful comments made to reporter Jourdan Rodrigue of the Charlotte Observer. Newton’s comments caused a huge backlash from the media and public, while yogurt maker Dannon decided to cut their ties with 2015 NFL MVP. He finally spoke out on Thursday, apologizing via video posted on his Twitter profile.
“After careful thought, I understand that my word choice was extremely degrading and disrespectful to women,” – said Newton in the video. “And to be honest, that was not my intention. If you are a person who took offense to what I said, I sincerely apologize to you. I’m a man who tries to be a positive role model to my community and tries to use my platform to inspire others. I take ownership to everything that comes with that. What I did was extremely unacceptable.“

After Newton’s apology, Rodrigue said that it was “well said and well put”. “I just hope that someday we can move forward from everything and start again. A tough set of circumstances. Hopefully, this will settle things and we can go forward.” – Rodrigue added.
For those of you unfamiliar with the story, during a press conference, Rodrigue asked Newton about receiver Devin Funchess and how Funchess “embraced physicality of his routes”.
“It’s funny to hear a female talk about routes,” Newton said responding to the question. “It’s funny.”
Although the Panthers released a statement after the incident and said that Newton expressed regret for his words, Rodrigue claimed that Newton never actually apologized. She also said that she spoke with him after the press conference and that the conversation was even worse.
