On Thursday, Cleveland Browns have announced that they are releasing safety Calvin Pryor alongside quarterback Josh Woodrum. The announcement was made on the Browns official website and their Twitter profile.

Although the team didn’t reveal the reasons for releasing Calvin Pryor saying it was “internal matter”, SB Nation reports that he was involved in a fight with wide receiver Ricardo Louis. Browns coach Hue Jackson confirmed that Louis won’t be released. Kai Nacua is expected to be promoted and fill the open spot.

Pryor being released comes just three months after Cleveland Browns acquired him from the New York Jets sending linebacker Demario Davis in exchange. Following the trade to Browns, Pryor said that the move feels like “a great opportunity” and that he hopes for a fresh start. Jets didn’t need Pryor after drafting Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye (both safety) and it looks like Browns considered him expendable as well.

Calvin Pryor played college football at the University of Louisville, where he had 218 total tackles, 2 sacks and 7 interceptions adding 9 forced fumbles. He then entered the 2014 NFL Draft, where he was drafted by New York Jets in the first round as 18th overall pick. Prior to the trade with Cleveland Browns, Jets declined his fifth-year option. Pryor’s NFL statistics include 191 tackles, 2 interceptions, 0.5 sacks, 14 pass deflections and 2 forced fumbles.

This wasn’t the only news related to Cleveland Browns today since they previously announced that the rookie and first overall pick in 2017 NFL Draft Myles Garrett suffered a high ankle sprain in practice. They didn’t reveal how the injury happened. Garrett also suffered a lateral sprain during the spring. Although the Browns said they will give an update on the injury in a couple of weeks, the sources are claiming that Garrett could spend more than 4 weeks recovering from the injury.
