With their left guard Ali Marpet entering the final year of his rookie contract, Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to act fast and give the 25-year-old a five-year, $54 million extension. This new deal includes $26.8 million guaranteed and positions Marpert as one of NFL’s highest-paid guards.

Today was a good day,” – wrote Marpert on Instagram while posting a photo of himself signing the contract. “So many people to thank including the Glazer family, Jason Licht, my coaches and teammates, and all of those who work at One Buc. Beyond excited to call Tampa Bay home and a huge shoutout to all the fans, my family and friends, Hobart College, and the village of Hastings.”

Ali Marpet was selected in the second round of the 2015 draft by the Bucs and managed to win the starting job in his rookie season eventually being named into PFWA All-Rookie Team. During the three and a half years he spent in Tampa Bay, Marpet played 44 games.

After figuring out a long-term extension with Ali Marpet, Buccaneers will now look to do the same with left tackle Donovan Smith and middle linebacker Kwon Alexander, their other two key players who are also in the fifth year of their rookie contracts.
