Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced on Wednesday that they have signed veteran quarterback Blaine Gabbert to a one-year deal. The announcement came just few days after Buccs’ coach Bruce Arians confirmed that the team is working on acquiring the 29-year-old.

The move means a reunion for Gabbert and Arians, as the two previously worked together with Arizona Cardinals in 2017.

With Arians’ dedicated to Jameis Winston as Tampa Bay’s starting QB, Gabbert will compete with Ryan Griffin for a backup spot.

Blaine Gabbert spent the 2018 season with the Tennessee Titans, where he backed Marcus Mariota. He ended up receiving significant playing time due to Mariota’s struggles to stay healthy and started a total of three games. Gabbert finished the year with 626 passing yards and four touchdowns. Titans decided to release him earlier this month after they acquired Ryan Tannehill from Miami Dolphins.

Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Blaine Gabbert 10th overall in 2011, but he never managed to live up to the high expectations. He lasted only three years with the Jags, before being traded to San Francisco 49ers and then embarking on stints with Cardinals and Titans.

During his NFL career, Gabbert played in 56 games (48 as a starter), managing to complete 56.2 percent of his passes for 9,063 yards, 48 TDs, and 47 interceptions.
