Vinny Curry’s time with Tampa Bay Buccaneers has come to an end sooner than anyone expected. Buccaneers announced on Tuesday that they have parted ways with Curry, after the 30-year-old defensive end spent just one season with the team.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Vinny Curry in March 2018 to three-year, $23 million contract in an attempt to rebuild their defensive line.  Curry started the 2018 as the team’s starting DE, but struggles with injuries and emergence of other players made him fall down on the depth chart. He ended up playing 12 games for the Buccs, managing 21 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and seven quarterback hits.

Vinny Curry entered the NFL when Philadelphia Eagles selected him with the second round pick in the 2012 draft. After a mediocre season, he managed to find some continuity in 2013 and had a breakout season in 2014, when he had 9.0 sacks.  Still, Curry couldn’t remain a consistent performer to justify his big contract and ended up being released by the Eagles following the 2017 season after he didn’t want to take a pay cut.

Curry’s NFL career stats include 151 total tackles, 24.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
