The Boston Bruins will start their training camp for the 2024-25 NHL season without top goalie Jeremy Swayman. This was confirmed to reporters on Wednesday by Bruins general manager Don Sweeney.
Swayman, who is a restricted free agent, decided not to report as he waits for his representatives to get a new deal done with the Bruins. The two sides previously opted to skip arbitration despite Swayman being eligible for it.
“He has chosen to wait, and rightfully so, until a contract is settled,” Sweeney said. “It’s our intention to continue to negotiate a contract. I’m disappointed that when you set things as a priority in the general manager spot that you do your best to try and accomplish that and I haven’t been able to do that yet.”
Sweeney added that he expects Swayman to be with the team at some point before December 1. This is the deadline until a team can sign a player to a contract and have him eligible to play in the current season.
Jeremy Swayman made his debut with the Bruins during the 2020-21 season and has since played 132 games, including 125 starts. He has a 79-33-15 record with a 2.34 goals-against average (GAA) and a .919 save percentage. Swayman made the All-Star last season after going 25-10-8 with a 2.53 GAA and a .916 save percentage.
