The Boston Bruins’ veteran Patrice Bergeron just added another Selke Trophy, which is awarded to the best defensive forward in NHL, to his resume. The 2022 Selke Trophy is Bergeron’s fifth and has helped him to break the tie with Hall of Famer Bob Gainey for most in the history of the league.

Bergeron, who finished the season with 25 goals and 40 assists for 65 points, received 160 first-place votes from 195 possible. It was his 11th nomination, which is a record for a single award. His most recent win came in 2017.

It is unclear whether Bergeron will get a chance to push his Selke Trophy tally to six. The 36-year-old player is a free agent, and there is still no indication that the Bruins will step up with an offer to keep him for the 2022-23 NHL season and beyond.

“I still think I have a lot of time in front of me, I guess, to make that decision,” Bergeron said when asked about his future. “I want to make sure that I take all the time that I need to make the right one.”

Patrice Bergeron spent his entire pro career in Boston. He played in 1,216 NHL games, scoring 400 goals and dishing 582 assists for a total of 982 points. Bergeron’s other accolades include the NHL All-Star Game nods and a Stanley Cup win from 2011.
