Cleveland Browns rookie safety Grant Delpit tore his Achilles in practice and will be out for the entire season.

After drafting cornerback Greedy Williams from LSU last year, the Browns were hoping that another LSU defensive back would come in to solidify their defensive backfield, but that plan will have to wait until next year at the earliest.

Delpit had a great sophomore year as a safety at LSU, but had a down year last year because of a nagging ankle injury, which was the main reason why he fell to the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, where the Browns happily scooped him up with their first selection of the draft.

Cleveland was expecting Delpit to start immediately, replacing the departed Damarious Randall.

The Browns are going through a complete revamp at the safety position. They signed Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo this year, along with drafting Delpit. Sendejo is expected to try to take Delpit’s spot.

It has been a very injury-prone preseason for the Browns so far. Second-year linebacker Mack Wilson, star running back Nick Chubb, and cornerback Kevin Johnson have all landed on the injury report over the last week alone.
