Cleveland Browns have lost patience with the talented, but troublesome wide receiver Antonio Callaway. Browns announced on Thursday that they have waived Callaway while activating offensive lineman Drew Forbes from injured reserve in a corresponding move.

Callaway’s departure comes after he was late for Sunday’s game against Buffalo Bills, which resulted in him being a healthy scratch. While the team didn’t specify the reasons for releasing the second-year wideout, sources close to the situation told ESPN’s Josina Anderson that the team had “too many issues” with the player.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, on the other hand, reports that one of the reasons Cleveland Browns moved on from Antonio Callaway is a possible suspension he is facing from the NFL. Fowler reports that Callaway will most likely get a 10-games suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. He is currently appealing the decision.

This isn’t the first time Callaway has gotten himself in similar problems, as he served the four-game suspension at the beginning of 2019 for the same violation. He also had issues with off the field behavior in college, which ultimately caused his draft stocks to plummet.

Browns decided to roll the dice on Callaway by drafting him in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He repaid their faith with some good performances, finishing his rookie season with 43 receptions for 586 yards and five touchdowns. He was a lot less productive this year, totaling just eight receptions for 89 yards in four games.
