The Denver Broncos best defensive player, Von Miller, will not play in 2020.

According to reports, Miller will need season-ending surgery on his ankle after a “freak injury” that occurred during the last play of practice on Tuesday.

This is obviously a huge blow for Denver, who needs all of the help they can get this year if they want to compete in their division. The Broncos and Miller had a down year in 2019.

Even though he made the Pro Bowl for the sixth straight time in 2019, Miller only recorded eight sacks, which is the second-fewest he has recorded in his nine-year career.

As Miller goes, so does the Broncos defense. They ranked 13th in defensive efficiency in 2019 and were looking to bounce back this year with a healthy Bradley Chubb back on the roster.

Chubb, who plays linebacker on the opposite side of Miller, will now be relied on more heavily to produce pressure on opposing quarterbacks with the team’s best pass rusher gone for the year.

Miller, who is 31 years old, is still considered one of the best pass rushers in the league. He won Super Bowl MVP honors in 2016, becoming only the fourth linebacker in NFL history to win the award.
