The Milwaukee Brewers are NL Central champions once again. The Brewers clinched the division title, their third in the past four seasons, on Wednesday thanks to the Chicago Cubs’ 5-3 loss to the Oakland A’s.
The Brewers have an 87-64 record and 10.5 games lead over the Cubs, who have 10 games left to play in the 2024 season. They are the first team to clinch a division title in the MLB this year.
Despite the big achievement, the Brewers still have a lot to play for. They are currently in the hunt for one of the top two seeds in the National League, which would give them a first-round bye. They are currently two games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (89-62) and four games behind the Philadelphia Phillies (91-60), two teams that currently occupy those spots.
“Nobody wants it to be easy, let’s just be honest,” first baseman Rhys Hoskins told reporters on Wednesday. “Everybody that’s in that room cherishes challenges. The first challenge (is) down. We obviously have a few more ahead of us. We’re excited about that.”
The Brewers will also look to make a deep playoff run after several consecutive early exits in the postseason. They have now made the postseason six times in the past seven years but only managed to win a playoff series once.
