Brentford’s striker Ivan Toney is set to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, according to soccer insider Fabrizio Romano.

Brentford and Al-Ahli agreed to a £40 million ($53 million) transfer fee, with Toney signing a three-year contract. Toney will reportedly earn around €18 million ($19.8 million) on an annual basis with his new club.

Toney has already passed his medical, and the move is expected to become official in the coming days.

Brentford has been reluctant to let go of Toney, who has been the club’s best player since they won the promotion to the Premier League in 2021. However, considering he had just one year left on his deal, they decided to cash in on him rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.

Toney attracted the interest of several European clubs as well in this transfer window, with Chelsea making a late push for his signature. However, a lucrative offer from Al-Ahli likely made him more interested in a move to Saudi Arabia.

Toney joined Brentford in 2021 in a deal from Peterborough United. Since then, he has scored 72 goals and added 23 assists for the club in all competitions. He only played 17 matches last season after being handed an eight-month suspension in May 2023 for breaching betting rules.
