U.S. international forward Brandon Vazquez is nearing a return to MLS. Vazquez is a target for Austin FC, which is near to finalizing transfer terms with Vazquez’s current club CF Monterrey.
Vazquez joined Monterrey a year ago in a $7.5 million transfer from FC Cincinnati. His time in Liga MX was mixed, as he didn’t play poorly but also failed to match his form from previous seasons. He scored 14 goals in 49 matches for Monterrey so far.
It is likely that Vazquez believes a return to MLS would be beneficial for his career and allow him to recapture his old form. Austin FC offers a great opportunity for that, as he would likely be one of the club’s key players.
Austin FC has been on the market for an improvement in the attacking department after struggles in front of the goal in 2024. The club scored just 39 goals in 34 matches, which was the second-fewest in the league. Getting Vazquez would go a long way in achieving this, considering his past success in the league.
Brandon Vazquez made his MLS debut in 2017 with Atlanta United, where he played for three seasons before joining Cincinnati. In 166 MLS games with these two clubs, Vasquez scored 58 goals while earning MLS All-Star and MLS Best XI honors in 2022.
Vazquez is also a member of the United States men’s national team. He debuted for the senior team in 2023 and has since made 11 appearances and scored four goals.
