The United States Men’s National Team got another great bit of news on Thursday related to the next generation of soccer talent, as Borussia Dortmund midfielder Giovanni Reyna ended speculation that he might be looking to play for another country’s senior national team.

Reyna, who was born in England and whose father is a naturalized US citizen born in Argentina, dismissed speculation that he would join either the European or South American squads that he could have played for.

He made it clear that he only wants to play for the United States in the future, continuing the trend that he began after representing the country’s U15, U16, and U17 squads.

The 17-year-old midfielder is considered to be one of the top young talents of the game. He made his senior team debut with the Bundesliga club on January 18th, scoring his first goal only two weeks later in a German cup game against Werder Bremen.

Reyna joined Dortmund last year after coming up through the youth system of New York City FC.

He will look to continue the legacy of his father, Claudio Reyna, who represented the United States internationally during his playing career. The talented attacking midfielder surely doesn’t have long to wait until his first call-up for the American senior team.
