The Toronto Blue Jays, a franchise featuring some of the best young talent in baseball, have been left without one of their top stars for at least the next 10 days after shortstop Bo Bichette was placed on the 10-day IL.

Bichette has been diagnosed with a right knee sprain, an injury that apparently occurred during the Blue Jays’ Saturday game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The game was suspended by rain in the fourth inning, and while stretching after the game was called, the young shortstop felt discomfort.

After no improvement was noted on Sunday, the team elected to move him to the injured list, a place where he will have to stay for a minimum of 10 days.

The Florida native and son of former MLB star Dante Bichette has gotten off to a roaring start to 2020, batting .361 with 5 home runs and 13 RBI, as well as 4 steals. Though only 60 games into his young career, Bichette has the makings of one of Toronto’s franchise cornerstones.

The 7-11 Blue Jays will miss Bichette during his absence and will hope that Joe Panik will do a good job of stepping in to replace him during the time he will miss.
