The Buffalo Bills signed their standout defensive back Taron Johnson to a three-year extension. The new deal ties Johnson to the franchise through the 2027 NFL season.

The Bills confirmed the news without revealing the financial terms of the agreement. According to reports around the league, Johnson’s extension is worth $31 million, which makes him the highest-paid nickel corner in NFL history.

Johnson is coming off his best season as a pro. He finished the 2023 campaign with 98 tackles while adding 1.0 sacks, eight passes defended, and three forced fumbles. He ended up being selected for the Second-team All-Pro honors.

“They treat me like family and I love the guys I’ve played with, I love the guys they’ve brought here,” Johnson said via Bills’ official website. “We’ve been right in it every single year so I just want to continue getting past that point and get to the Super Bowl.”

The Bills selected Taron Johnson in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. After showing promise in his first two seasons as a pro, Johnson was entrusted with a bigger role in 2020 and used the opportunity in the best way possible. He established himself as an indispensable part of Buffalo’s defense, with his 955 snaps in 2023 being second-most among the entire unit.
