The Buffalo Bills continued to revamp their wide receiver corps on Friday by adding former Pittsburgh Steelers’ wideout Chase Claypool. According to the team’s official announcement, Claypool inked a one-year deal.
Besides Claypool, the Bills also added defensive end Dawuane Smoot and linebacker Deion Jones to their roster on the same day.
Claypool entered the league in 2020 as a second-round selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a standout rookie season, catching 62 passes for 873 yards and nine touchdowns, and followed that up with a solid sophomore year.
The Steelers ended up trading Claypool to the Chicago Bears midway through the 2022 season after the player expressed unhappiness with his role. His stint with the Bears was one to forget, as he managed only 18 receptions for 191 yards and a touchdown before being traded to the Miami Dolphins early in the 2023 campaign. Claypool went on to have a cameo role with the Dolphins last season, catching four passes for 26 yards.
Despite his recent struggles, Claypool gets an opportunity to resurrect his career with a Buffalo team that features a limited selection of reliable receivers. After moving on from Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs and veteran Gabe Davis, the Bills now have an inexperienced WR corps fronted by third-year player Khalil Shakir and rookie Keon Coleman.
