Week 3 of 2018 NFL season brought us an upset that the league hasn’t seen in 23 years. Buffalo Bills entered the away game against the Minnesota Vikings as 17-point underdogs and lived to celebrate a shocking 27-6 win.

Before this game, the Bills were considered the worst team in the league. They suffered two defeats at home including a massive 3-47 loss against the Baltimore Ravens, and the season seemed lost for Buffalo. On the other side, Minnesota Vikings were in talks as one of the best teams in the league with Super Bowl appearance being a realistic goal. But, when it was time to show what they are made of on the football field, Vikings stumbled.

Buffalo Bills got the ball first and then unleashed fury on the Minnesota Vikings. In the first quarter alone, Bills offense and rookie quarterback Josh Allen managed to complete two touchdowns and a field goal, while Vikings defense just watched. On the other end, Buffalo’s defense also did their fair share of work, stopping the Vikings offense led by one of the league’s highest-paid QBs in Kirk Cousins. In the second quarter, it was all the same. Bills scored a touchdown and a field goal, while Vikings couldn’t get anything done.

Now, you would think that Minnesota would try and rally back after the halftime, right? Well, they failed to do that as well, scoring one touchdown towards the end of the fourth quarter in order not to feel completely humiliated.

I don’t think we took them too lightly, I think they came out and kicked our butts,” – said Vikings’ coach Mike Zimmer after the game giving the best possible description.

The last time an upset like this happened was in December 1995 when 17.5 underdogs Washington Redskins won 24-17 vs. Dallas Cowboys. Also, in the previous 159 games when the margin was 17 points or more, favorites won 145 times. Now the underdogs improved their record to 15 wins thanks to Buffalo.
