Buffalo Bills’ young quarterback Josh Allen will continue to have his blindside protected by Dion Dawkins for years to come. The team announced on Thursday that Dawkins inked a multi-year extension that will keep him with the organization through 2024.

Dawkins, Bills’ second-round pick in 2017, had one more year left on his deal. He now gets to extend his stay for further four years, while getting $60 million during the duration of the extension. Reportedly, $34 million of that amount is guaranteed.

“It just means that it’s time to go earn it. It’s definitely time to go out there and earn every penny of it,” said Dawkins after putting he pen on paper. “It just gives me that much more respect, and it just shows the respect they had for myself that, listen, this is our franchise left tackle, and Dion Dawkins is a piece that we can build around, and we can continue to win games with.”

Bills drafted Dion Dawkins out of Temple three years ago, and he immediately slid into the team’s starting left tackle position. He played all 48 possible games in the regular season while making 43 starts. Dawkins took part in 2,854 snaps during that time.

Reportedly, Buffalo is satisfied with what Dawkins showed so far, and believes he will continue to develop. This, and the fact that quality tackles are hard to find, prompted the organization to lock him long-terms sooner than later.
