Despite being 78 years old, Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder is not thinking about retirement. As a matter of fact, Snyder is looking to coach Wildcats for several more years after agreeing on a five-year contract with the university. The new deal will keep Snyder in Kansas City through 2022.

According to ESPN, the new deal will see Bill Snyder earning $3.45 million in 2018 and then getting $300K increases in both 2019 and 2020.

It has been a pleasure watching our football program up close over the past year and seeing one of the greatest coaches in the history of college football continue to positively impact student-athletes while also producing winning seasons on a yearly basis,” – said Kansas State athletic director Gene Taylor in a statement. “With this new contract, we felt that it was important to recognize his commitment to our football program, and we look forward to his continued leadership.

After starting the last season with a 3-4 record, Snyder led the Wildcats to five wins in their last six games to end the season with 8-5 record. The team finished tied for fourth place in Big 12 Conference while winning the 2017 Cactus Bowl against UCLA Bruins.

We have continued to make daily improvement as a football program, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue and will do so as long as I am healthy and feel that I am having a positive impact on our university, community and football program and the young men that are involved,” – said Snyder in the statement.

Kansas State gave Bill Snyder his first head coaching job back in 1989, and he ended up spending 26 years coaching the Wildcats in his first tenure, before announcing his retirement in 2005. After being out of college football for three years, Snyder decided to return to Kansas State for the second tenure in 2010.
