New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is the highest-paid sports coach in the United States. That is according to Sportico, the digital content company specializing in the business side of the sport.
Sportico recently compiled a list of 25 top earners among coaches in U.S. sports that sees Belichick sitting at the top with an $18 million annual salary. Behind the six-time Super Bowl winner are the Seattle Seahawks’ Pete Carroll and the New Orleans Saints’ Sean Payton, who each earn $14 million, and the Kansas City Chiefs’ Andy Reid with $12 million.
The only non-NFL coach in the top five is the San Antonio Spurs’ Gregg Popovich, who is tied at fifth with the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Tomlin at $11.5 million a year. The duo is followed by Alabama’s Nick Saban, who reportedly earns $10.7 million.
The top 10 is rounded up by Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher, the San Francisco 49ers’ Kyle Shanahan, and the Golden State Warriors’ Steve Kerr. The trio takes home $9.5 million on an annual basis.
Overall, there are 17 football head coaches and eight basketball head coaches on Sportico’s list. Four entries are coaching in college, while 21 coaches are working in professional leagues. Not a single coach from the MLB or NHL managed to get on the list.
