Cincinnati Bengals will have A.J. Green on their roster in 2020 despite failing to agree to a long-term extension with the star wideout. The team announced on Friday that Green signed his franchise tender and intends to report to training camp.

Green will earn $18.2 million playing on the tag this season and will become a free agent in 2021.

Green didn’t play at all in 2019, dealing with an ankle injury he picked up during training camp. Still, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor views the 31-year-old Pro Bowler as the key player in his attempts to turn around the franchise.

“A.J. is one of the best receivers in the NFL,” said Taylor after learning the news. “He’s an important part of our plans, and we’re thrilled to have him in the fold from Day 1. We’re looking forward to the impact of his talent and leadership on our offense this season.”

A.J. Green is entering his 10th season in NFL, being selected No.4 by Bengals in 2011 NFL Draft. Since then, Green positioned himself as one of the best wide receivers in the game and one of the best in franchise history.

Green’s career numbers include 8,907 receiving yards and 602 receptions, ranking second on the team’s all-time list in both categories. He is also third in receiving touchdowns with 63.

Ben loves sports so much but prefers watching other people do it. He prefers not to share what teams he's supporting but he is willing to admit that Lebron James is, in fact, the king.
