Bengals Have QB Jeff Driskel Play as a WR in Practice

It seems like NFL teams are in the mood for experiments this season. After New England Patriots recently switched quarterback Danny Etling to wide receiver, Cincinnati Bengals are now doing the same with QB Jeff Driskel.

At Tuesday’s practice, Bengals had Driskel line up as a WR in order to see if they can use his athleticism in more ways than one. And while the 26-year-old embraced the switch, for now, he still hopes he can make the team as a QB.

“I’m still competing at quarterback,” – said Driskel via The Athletic. “That’s what I want to be. That’s what I think I can be. But I just want to show that I can add value to this team in other ways and show that I want to contribute and can contribute.”

Bengals’ new head coach Zac Taylor insists that Driskel receiving reps at the WR position doesn’t mean he will be exclusively used as a receiver.

“We’ll keep giving him a look. But it doesn’t change,” – said Taylor. “He goes to quarterback meetings. He goes to quarterback individual (drills). He still takes his reps. That does not cut into that at all.”

Jeff Driskel joined the Cincinnati Bengals in 2016 but didn’t see any NFL regular-season action until last year. Following the injury of Andy Dalton, Driskel started the last five games of the season for Bengals and threw 764 yards with five touchdowns.
