Chicago Bears won’t match the offer sheet New Orleans Saints gave to the restricted free-agent wide receiver Cameron Meredith. The player himself revealed the information during an appearance on ESPN 1000’s Waddle and Silvy Show, saying that the Bears’ general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy informed him about the decision in person. Saints previously signed Meredith to a two-year, $9.6 million offer sheet, giving the Bears five days to match the offer and keep the 25-year-old on their roster.

It was just the right move for the Bears as a whole and as a team. As for me, as a player, we just felt this was the best way to go,” – said Meredith. “I think in the grand scheme of things, I don’t really know the specific details why they did it, or why they didn’t. I can just control what I can control and do going forward.

Meredith also said that he is looking forward to playing with the Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees.

An opportunity like this isn’t presented to a lot of people. For me to be able to go down there and play with a first-ballot Hall of Famer and soak up all the knowledge he has about the game and see the game from a different perspective is exciting.” – he added.

After going undrafted in 2015 NFL Draft, Cameron Meredith signed with the Chicago Bears. After a weak rookie season, he had a breakthrough 2016 season in which he had 66 catches for 888 yards and four touchdowns. He entered the 2017 season as the Bears’ first wide receiver choice, but suffered a serious knee injury in a preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, and missed the entire regular season. This injury is considered to be one of the main reasons for why the Bears didn’t decide to match the Saints’ offer.
