Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus revealed that wide receiver N’Keal Harry will be sidelined for an unspecified amount of time after undergoing surgery on his left ankle on Thursday. This comes after he was injured while training with the rest of the squad on Saturday. Harry reportedly got his ankle wrapped up underneath linebacker Nicholas Morrow while running through the first play of team drills that day. Unable to put weight on his ankle after the incident, he was helped off the field by trainers and teammates.

This injury puts a major strain on the Bears at this position as Harry joins fellow wide receivers Byron Pringle and Velus Jones Jr. on the team’s injury list. Pringle is out indefinitely after suffering a quad injury while rookie Jones Jr. is currently classified as day-to-day, having missed the last week of training camp.

On the flip side, linebacker Roquan Smith has been removed physically unable to perform list after undergoing a physical on Wednesday. Still, the player decided not to attend practice after being cleared to play.

“He was cleared by our medical staff as healthy. He did not practice. And the reason why for that is, you’ll have to ask him. We expect all of our healthy players to practice, and that was his decision. Like I said, you’ll have to ask him. I have not talked to him about it,” Eberflus stated during a press conference. Smith handed in a trade request earlier this week.
