Cody Parkey’s time with the Chicago Bears is coming to an end. According to several media reports, including ESPN and Forbes, Bears are looking to release the 27-year-old kicker in the following days.

The Bears’ decision is somewhat expected, since Parkey had a struggling season in 2018. He managed three extra point attempts and eight field goal tries including a game-deciding 43-yard FG towards the end of the first round playoffs match against the Philadelphia Eagles. This brought him to having a third-lowest FG conversion rate in the league. If the team proceeds with the decision as planned, they will be looking at $4,437,500 worth of dead salary-cap money.

Cody Parkey went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, and then signed with the Indianapolis Colts who swiftly traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles. He managed to earn a Pro Bowl appearance in his first season, and spent one more year in Philadelphia before stints with Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins. In March 2018, Chicago Bears decided to give Parkey a four-year-deal, which had $9 million in guarantees.

Parkey’s career stats include 99 made field goals out of 118 attempted (83.9 percent), alongside 176 touchbacks.
