Real Madrid reportedly secured the services of Bayern Munich star defender David Alaba.  According to influential Spanish media outlet Marca, Alaba agreed to join the La Liga giants on a four-year deal.

Alaba will come to Spain as a free agent, as his contract with Bayern is set to expire at the end of the 2020-21 season. He will earn around $13.5 million annually with Real.

This represents a big gain for Los Blancos, especially considering the uncertain future of their captain and star center back Sergio Ramos. The two teams are currently negotiating a new deal, but it appears that the talks are not going as smoothly as expected.

If Ramos decides to walk away, Real can immediately plug in Alaba as Rafael Varane’s partner in the back four. In case Ramos stays, Alaba can be slotted on the wing-back position or even moved to the midfield.

David Alaba spent almost his entire professional career with Bayern Munich, making 409 appearances for the club and scoring 32 goals. He also helped the Bavarian giants win 23 trophies, including nine Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions Leagues.

Despite the history together, Alaba and Bayern couldn’t come to an agreement about a new deal last summer. Reportedly, the club made an effort to re-sign him, but Alaba asked for too much money.
